Volume 1 · Week 1 — A New Beginning

Day 4 — Beginning Again After Failure

Main verse

“[…] when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.”

— Micah 7:8 (excerpt) (KJV)

Meditation

Failure has a harsh voice. It tells us that we should have known better, planned better, or acted better. Then it adds that any new attempt is pointless. If we listen long enough, we may begin to confuse a fall with who we are.

But falling does not mean the journey is over. In the Bible, many people called by God knew fear, lost their way, or collapsed. Peter denied Jesus at the very moment when he wanted to be most faithful to Him. Yet the risen Christ did not come to humiliate him. He met him, questioned him, restored him, and entrusted him with a new responsibility.

God does not minimize our wrongdoing. He brings it into the light to free us from it. His grace does not call evil good; it simply refuses to let evil have the last word.

Beginning again after failure requires humility. We must acknowledge what has been broken, sometimes accept the consequences, and learn another way forward. But we do not begin again alone. The One who lifts us up walks with us.

Our fall can become a place of honesty. It can also become the place where we discover that God’s faithfulness is greater than our weakness.

Psalm

Psalm 37:23–24 (KJV)

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD : and he delighteth in his way. 24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.

Prayer

God of mercy, I bring You my mistakes and failures. Keep me from excusing them, but also from believing that they leave me beyond all hope. Lift me up, teach me, and lead me into renewed faithfulness. May my weakness become a place where Your grace is revealed. Amen.

A thought to keep

A fall may interrupt my walk, but it does not put an end to God’s call.
