Volume 1 · Week 1 — A New Beginning

Day 5 — Taking the First Step

Main verse

“So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him […].”

— Genesis 12:4 (excerpt) (KJV)

Meditation

Great changes rarely begin with great actions. They often begin with a quiet step: a decision, a word, a phone call, a doorway we finally agree to walk through.

Abraham was called to leave what was familiar without knowing every detail of his journey. God did not give him a complete map. He gave him a word and a direction. Abraham set out, not because he knew the whole road, but because he trusted the One who called him.

Sometimes we wait until we are perfectly ready before acting. We would like every fear to disappear, every condition to be favorable, and the outcome to be guaranteed. That waiting can become a way of never beginning.

Faith is not the absence of questions. It is the decision to move forward with God in the midst of them. The first step may seem insignificant, but it breaks the standstill. It makes the next step possible.

What first step lies before us today? Perhaps we do not need to resolve an entire situation, but simply to write a few lines, ask forgiveness, seek help, or take up a responsibility we abandoned.

God does not always ask us to travel the whole road in one day. He invites us to entrust Him with the step we can take now.

Psalm

Psalm 25:4–5 (KJV)

4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD ; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Prayer

Lord, I often want to see the whole road before I begin. Give me a trust simple enough to take the first step. Show me what is mine to do today, and free me from the fear of not controlling everything. May Your word be a lamp before my feet. Amen.

A thought to keep

I do not need to see the whole road to take the first step with God.
