Volume 1 · Week 11 — Trusting Amid Uncertainty
Day 76 — Not Discerning Alone
Main verse
“Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
— Proverbs 15:22 (KJV)
Meditation
In uncertainty, we sometimes seek an entirely personal answer: a sudden conviction, a particular sign, or an inward certainty leaving no room for doubt. We then forget that God can also guide us through the wisdom of others.
Moses himself needed Jethro’s perspective. Absorbed in his responsibility, he was trying to meet the needs of the whole people alone. His father-in-law saw what Moses no longer recognized: this way of serving would exhaust him and weaken the community.
Receiving advice requires humility. We must accept that our understanding is partial and that our emotions may influence our judgment. Someone outside the situation may sometimes notice a danger, a possibility, or a motive we cannot see.
Yet not all advice carries the same value. It is wise to turn to mature, honest people who can listen before answering. Good counselors do not seek to decide for us or impose their preferences. They help us examine the facts, consequences, and biblical principles.
Seeking counsel does not release us from praying or taking responsibility for our decision. Even after listening to several voices, we must choose responsibly before God.
We may also receive differing opinions. This diversity does not always produce an immediate answer, but it requires us to slow down and discern more deeply.
Today, perhaps we should not carry a decision alone. God has placed people around us whose wisdom can become a light along the road.
Psalm
Psalm 1:1–3 (KJV)
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Prayer
Lord, free me from the pride that wants to understand everything and decide everything alone. Place near me wise, sincere people who respect your Word. Give me humility to listen, discernment to examine the counsel I receive, and courage to take faithful responsibility for my decision. Amen.
A thought to keep
In uncertainty, God can light my path through the wisdom of a voice I am willing to hear.
