Volume 1 · Week 4 — Listening to God’s Voice

Day 23 — Recognizing the Shepherd’s Voice

Main verse

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”

— John 10:27 (KJV)

Meditation

A sheep recognizes its shepherd’s voice because it has heard it often. It follows him not simply because of his words, but also because a relationship of trust has grown over time.

God’s voice is not recognized by fear, confusion, or coercion. It bears the character of the Good Shepherd. It brings light without humiliation, corrects without crushing, and guides without manipulation. Even when it reproves us, it leads us back to truth, freedom, and life.

Not every thought that crosses our minds comes from God. Our fears, wounds, ambitions, and other people’s expectations can speak very loudly. Some voices accuse us without offering hope. Others flatter our desires to draw us away from what is good.

The Shepherd’s voice remains consistent with his Word and his character. It will never lead us to despise, deceive, or destroy. It will make us more honest, humble, just, and loving.

The more we walk with Jesus, the more familiar his voice becomes. We learn to recognize his way of speaking: truth accompanied by grace, a call accompanied by his presence.

Psalm

Psalm 95:7 (KJV)

7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,
