Volume 1 · Week 2 — The Presence of God
Day 9 — Discovering God’s Presence in Silence
Main verse
“Be still, and know that I am God […].”
— Psalm 46:10 (excerpt) (KJV)
Meditation
Our days are full of voices. Some come from outside: conversations, news, music, and messages. Others speak within us: memories, plans, fears, and questions. Even when everything around us seems quiet, our minds can remain noisy.
Silence sometimes makes us uncomfortable because it reveals what busyness helped us avoid. Emotions rise to the surface. Concerns we pushed aside make themselves heard. Yet silence can also become a place of welcome.
God is not absent from noise, but we often need to stop to discern His presence. We are not trying to obtain an immediate answer or produce a spiritual feeling. We are simply remaining before God, without a mask or a rush.
Before Elijah came a powerful wind, an earthquake, and a fire. Yet God made His presence known to him in a still, small voice.
A few minutes of silence offered to God can be enough to turn a day in a new direction. We have nothing to prove. We can breathe, lay down our thoughts, and let this truth settle within us: God is here, and we are in His hands.
Psalm
Psalm 46 (KJV)
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. 5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. 6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. 7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. 8 Come, behold the works of the LORD , what desolations he hath made in the earth. 9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Prayer
God of peace, quiet within me what keeps me from hearing. I have not come to offer beautiful words, but to remain in Your presence for a moment. Receive my scattered thoughts and my worries. Teach me the silence that listens, waits, and trusts. Amen.
A thought to keep
Silence does not create God’s presence; it helps me recognize it.
