Volume 1 · Week 11 — Trusting Amid Uncertainty
Day 71 — When I Do Not Understand the Road
Main verse
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
Meditation
We naturally seek to understand what happens to us. An explanation gives us the impression that the situation can be controlled. But some stages of life resist our understanding for a long time: a door closes for no apparent reason, a carefully prepared project fails, or a relationship suddenly changes.
The book of Proverbs does not ask us to stop thinking. Wisdom, counsel, and discernment are precious gifts. Yet it warns us not to make our own understanding the ultimate foundation of our security.
Our vision remains partial. We often interpret the whole story from the difficult chapter we are living through. God sees the beginning, the present, and what still remains hidden.
Trusting, then, does not mean declaring that everything is clear or pleasant. It means saying, “Lord, I do not understand this road, but I refuse to believe that you have forgotten me here.”
To acknowledge God in all our ways is to invite him into our decisions, our hesitations, and our unfinished plans. It means asking him not only to bless the road we have chosen, but also to correct us when we take the wrong direction.
The promise of a straight path does not mean a road without difficulty. Rather, it assures us of direction given by God, sometimes one step at a time.
Today, we can lay before him the question that remains unanswered. We will keep seeking wisely, but we will not wait until we understand everything before trusting the One who knows the road.
Psalm
Psalm 25:4–10 (KJV)
4 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. 5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD. 8 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. 9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. 10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

Prayer
Lord, I entrust to you what I do not understand. Keep me from mistaking my limited impressions for the whole truth. Give me wisdom to seek, humility to listen, and trust to move forward. Correct my direction when necessary and lead me step by step. Amen.
A thought to keep
I can fail to understand the road without ceasing to trust the One who knows it.
