Volume 1 · Week 1 — A New Beginning

Day 7 — Entrusting the Road Ahead to God

Main verse

“Commit thy way unto the LORD ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”

— Psalm 37:5 (KJV)

Meditation

At the end of this first week, much of the road remains unknown. We have spoken of beginnings, grace, letting go, being restored, first steps, and the unexpected. Yet no meditation can reveal everything the future will hold.

Faith does not give us control of tomorrow. It teaches us to entrust it to God.

Committing our way to God is not an act of resignation. It is recognizing that our lives can be guided with greater wisdom than we possess. We will continue to think, decide, and act, but we will no longer have to bear the weight of the outcome alone.

This trust needs renewing. What we entrusted to God yesterday may return today as a worry. Then we must entrust it to Him again, perhaps with very simple words: ‘Lord, this road is too much for me, but it is not too much for You.’

This seventh meditation also reminds us of the rest of the Sabbath. Not everything depends on our effort. While we stop, God remains at work. Rest thus becomes a quiet confession: the world keeps turning without our having to hold everything up.

We can move forward peacefully. The God who has accompanied us thus far will also be present in the days we do not yet know.

Psalm

Psalm 37:3–7 (KJV)

3 Trust in the LORD , and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 4 Delight thyself also in the LORD ; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5 Commit thy way unto the LORD ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. 6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. 7 Rest in the LORD , and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.

Prayer

Faithful Father, I place the road ahead in Your hands. I entrust You with what I hope for, what I fear, and what I cannot foresee. Teach me to act wisely without trying to control everything. Grant me the rest of knowing that my life remains in Your hands. Amen.

A thought to keep

The future is unknown to me, but it is not unknown to God.
