Volume 1 · Week 3 — Thirsting for God
Day 21 — Becoming a Spring for Others
Main verse
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
— John 7:38 (KJV)
Meditation
The water God gives is not entrusted to us to be shut away. It becomes a river. The grace we receive naturally seeks a passage toward others.
Someone whose thirst has been quenched by God can offer others a restful presence, an uplifting word, or a listening ear that does not judge too quickly. Such a person does not own the spring, but humbly becomes its channel.
Yet we are not called to meet every need or exhaust ourselves to prove our generosity. A river does not make its own water. It receives it. If we stop returning to God, our service can become restless activity, resentment, or a search for recognition.
Spiritual life thus has a twofold movement: coming to drink and allowing the water to flow. We receive comfort so that we can comfort others. We welcome forgiveness so that we can learn to forgive. We are looked upon with compassion so that we can look differently at those around us.
Before continuing the journey, let us ask not only where our thirst lies, but also toward whom the water we have received might flow. Someone may need a phone call, encouragement, or a quiet act of kindness.
We do not have to become the source. God alone is the source. He simply invites us not to obstruct the river.
Psalm
Psalm 1:1–3 (KJV)
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Prayer
Lord, thank You for the living water You offer my soul. Keep me from holding it for myself alone or trying to produce it by my own strength. Make my presence, my words, and my actions a passage for Your grace. Show me today the person I can encourage. Amen.
A thought to keep
I am not the source; I can become a passage for the water God gives.
